Description
Current Lot CIVIL WAR-ERA CARVED WOODEN CANE American, 19th Century With patriotic and fraternal symbols. Top of cane handle marked 'I.M. Parvin Co. H, 119 Reg. III. Vol. Jan 23rd, 1864'. Top of shaft with relief carving with an eye above the Bible. Carving below depicts American eagle and shield above two men shaking hands within 'United We Stand' and 'Divided We Fall' above a figure of Columbia above an anchor and chain. Reverse side of shaft depicts two hands above a homing or passenger pigeon with a letter, above a floral cornucopia and pagoda. Masonic carvings include a square and compass, and a bare sword resting on the Constitution. Carved foliate motif to bottom 16 1/2' of cane. Approximate length 36'.
