The term Dixie was popularized in the famous minstrel song, "Dixie's Land," written by Daniel D. Emmett (1815 to 1904) in 1859, that contained the famous words, "In Dixie Land I'll make my stand..."  The Front of our Dixie Dollars bill pictures Jefferson Davis, the first and only president of the Confederate States of America, in front of the Confederate's "Southern Cross" flag, which had 13 stars (11 for the 11 states that seceded from the US, plus Missouri and Kentucky, where efforts to secede failed).
