Description
2 1952 Haynes YNP Christmas cards real photos Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Two real photo Yellowstone National Park Christmas cards (4 x 7 3/8 inches) sent by Jack and Isabel Haynes to friends in 1952 (NOT postcards). Top photo, first card - Nathanial Pitt Langford, for whom a mountain in the park was named, was the first superintendent of Yellowstone National Park (1872-1877). He was an historian of the Washburn, Langford, Doane exploring expedition of 1870 and served as superintendent five years without pay to help preserve the area as a national asset. As a service to the nation, his record stands almost without parallel in the annals of American conservation. Bottom photo - first card - Sioux Indian Chiefs and Interpereter, Fort Yates, Standing Rock reservation, Dakota territory, after the surrender of the hostile Sioux. Seated, left to right: Philip F. Wells, Gall, Crawler, Crow King, Running Antelope, Rain-in-the-Face. Standing, left to right: Bruigier, Louis Sitting Bull, Al Parkhurst, Chatka Agard, Chase Walking, Yellow Hawk, Fool Bear, Brave Thunder. Photograph taken by Frank Jay Haynes in 1881. Top photo - second card: Philetus W. Norris, superintendent of Yellowstone National Park from 1877 to 1882, had the role of administrator, explorer, road builder, poet, and historian. A geyser basin, mountain and mountain pass in the park were named for him. Bottom photo - second card - The Six-Horse Yellowstone Park Stagecoaches, some carrying twenty-six passengers, were used principally for the short haul from the North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs. The Grand Loop Road of the park was traversed in four-horse, eleven passenger stagecoaches and smaller vehicles, prior to the motorization of park transportation in 1917. Nice Yellowstone National Park and Haynes memoribilia ( NOT postcards) and also for the Wyoming and Montana collector. See my other lots for more Haynes YNP Christmas cards!!!
