Description
“ HOUSTON - On July 15, 1975, three astronauts and two cosmonauts set forth on the first U.S. and Soviet joint effort in space. Their mission was to dock an Apollo command module with a Soyuz module and conduct two days of scientific experiments and goodwill exchanges.” “ The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) also marked the end of an era in human spaceflight. This was the last flight of a Saturn-series rocket and the Apollo capsule.” ******************************************************** This is a very rare original document which has been hand signed by the three American astronauts , Thomas Stafford, Vance Brand and Donald K. Slayton who set forth on the first U.S and Soviet joint effort in space on July 15th 1975. This document is actually a circular dated February 17th 1976, written in Hebrew and issued by the Technion Institute of Haifa Israel, announcing the forthcoming lecture that would be held on the same evening given by the three astronauts whilst visiting Israel. ( see translation to English below ) This document was given to me by my father who participated in this interesting lecture and upon its termination they were kind enough to hand sign their names on this circular. Note : An irrelevant scribble was written on the back side of the document (as seem in the photo) . ********************************************************* Translation of original Hebrew circular into English: THE TECHNION – TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF ISRAEL PUBLIC RELATIONS Department Haifa, 17th February 1976 A LECTURE ON THE SUBJECT OF THE SCIENTIFIC ASPECTS OF “APOLLO-SOYUZ” (IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE) Accompanied by a movie and slides. Will be given by the three American Astronauts who participated in the combined Space mission of Americans and Soviets in July 1975: Thomas Stafford Vance Brand Donald K. Slayton Will be held this evening Tuesday , 12.2.76 at 20.30 at Churchill Hall in the Technion Campus, and not as advertised. Thomas Stafford (signature) Vance Brand (signature) Donald K. Slayton (signature) ************************************************************* Following are Web links about Apollo-Soyuz mission: http://www.space.com/news/spacehistory/astp_crew_000715.html http://history.nasa.gov/astp/kipp.html
