1959 Christmas card from Jack & Isabel Haynes, YNP Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album An unused example of the Christmas card for 1959 that was sent by Jack and Isabel Haynes (official photographers for Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming). This 1959 version had a cover sheet that was sent along (included) stating: "Rare old photographs and good wishes from Isabel and Jack Haynes, Christmas 1959, 501 Tracy Avenue South, Bozeman, Montana. Inside, are two real photo cards (4 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches), NOT postcards, each with 2 copies of photos taken by F. J. Haynes. Card 1 - top photo - "Sheepeater Indians are reputed to be the only ones who inhabited Yellowstone National Park the year around. These wickiups, still standing were photographed in the early 1890s by F. Jay Haynes in the vicinity of the junction of the Gardiner River and Lava Creek. (Haynes 1915 photograph # 15003)". Bottom photo: "Passenger and freight transportation in Yellowstone National Park operated by James A. Clark headquartered at Mammoth in 1885 and until 1888 when he sold his interests to the Yellowstone Park Association. (Haynes photograph taken in 1886)". Second card, top photo: "Superintendent Philetus W. Norris built the first administration building in Yellowstone National Park in 1879. It was on Capitol Hill, and was surmounted by a steel plate turret so occupants could fight off the Indians. This historical structure was razed in 1909. (Haynes 1881 photograph # 32605)". Bottom photo: " Settlement of the Old Faithful area in Yellowstone National Park began in 1879 with construction of a log cabin on the site shown, which was later developed as a military outpost. The site was cleared in 1917 - being to close to the geysers across Firehole River. (Haynes 1914 photograph #102216)".
